Tributyrin is a well-studied precursor of the short-chain fatty acid BUTYRATE (aka Butyric acid). In the human body, butyrate is produced when good bacteria break down the dietary fiber in our colon. Tributyrin, a butyrate precursor, is naturally found in butter and ghee. Our vegan tributyrin, on the other hand, is made from vegetable oil through a special manufacturing process in which NO dairy or other animal products are involved. WHAT DOES BUTYRATE DO IN OUR BODIES?

Colonocytes, the cells that form the colon lining, require short-chain fatty acids to function properly, and butyrate is the main one they consume. Butyrate, a short-chain fatty acid, is the preferred energy source for our colon cells as it provides about 70% of the energy needs of our colon cells according to Cleveland Clinic (1). Butyrate appears to be involved in bowel function, water and sodium absorption, and the maintenance of the gut's protective mucus layer (2),(7),(8). In other words, butyrate appears to support the gut barrier (1),(3),(8). There is ongoing research on different aspects of butyrate and how it may be involved in many bodily functions, especially pertaining to digestive health (4),(5),(6),(7),(8).*
